Why Fashion blogging is not ‘optional’?

While discussing Fashion Blogging as a marketing channel with retailers, we come across many fashion business owners who seem to have negative emotions about blogging. They tell us (and themselves) all kinds of stories to justify why blogging won’t work out for them. They say things such as – I am not a writer, I don’t know what to write about, there are better marketing channels out there, it’s too much work, I don’t have time for it, yada, yada, yada…

I agree – using blogging as a viable marketing channel in Fashion Ecommerce is some seriously hard work. Of course it’s hard work; of course, it’s time-consuming. But that’s not my point here.

My point here is actually that – why are you apprehensive about the idea of blogging.

Whether or not you can blog actually depends on your ability as a business owner to produce content persistently and finding time to do it. The kind of content that excites not just your customers but also your employees and investors.

You just can’t do it until you’re deeply passionate about your business.

If you are truly passionate about your business, you will always have something interesting to write about. You will have a constant desire to take it out on your favorite text editor.

Whether or not you want to write or speak about your brand and business in public (including social media) is great sanity checks for you. If you’re really running out of content ideas, maybe you’re not as excited and passionate about your business. Or maybe you’re lacking clarity right now and you’re making efforts in the wrong direction.

If you look at the business owners of modern fashion labels, such as: Emily Weiss of Glossier, Sophia Amoruso of NastyGal, Andy Dunn of Bonobos, Michelle Lam of True&co and even Tory Burch… the list goes on and on. You will notice something common in all of them. They are all great writers, speakers & actors; and they are all super passionate about their business.

If you’re really passionate for your brand’s mission and overall business, there is no point in procrastinating blogging. Stop telling yourself that you’re not a writer. Writing and speaking can be learned with practice. It’s like building a new brain muscle and it’s not even optional if you want to succeed in this modern format of business.

And the best part of starting to blog today is that you don’t even need a .com. There is Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Youtube, etc. It doesn’t have to be complicated; just pick anyone blogging medium depending on what works for you and start expressing.

Blogging about your Fashion brand will not only help you in driving traffic and build brand awareness but writing about your business, brand & products will also give you more clarity about your mission.
