If you start seeing pale pink and baby blue next year in every retail store do not be surprised. The design and fashion industry looks forward to the annual announcement by Color authority Pantone. Most years a single color is chosen, and the color choices are usually bold and bright. This year two shades have been selected, both pastels. The decision is taken based on polls by decor & fashion designers, manufacturers, and retailers, the color of the year is decided collectively.
Pantone also uses marketing techniques after it announces the color of the year. It partners with companies like Sephora and Keurig coffee makers and designs products like cosmetics and coffee mugs to promote the particular colour. Leatrice Eiseman executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute leads the team and overlooks the annual choice of Color of the Year. The colors are selected with business in mind, thus the shades which resonate with the customers are selected each year. The Dubbed Rose Quartz and Serenity shades selected this time around help inducing feelings of stability, constancy, comfort, relaxation and create balance in a chaotic world explain Ms. Eiseman.
