For many generations there have been set gender binaries in fashion and retail, which means that there are certain kinds of clothes for men and certain kinds for women. However retail is experiencing a shift of kinds towards androgyny, where certain kinds of clothes are being designed for both men and women. This gender neutral clothing movement is creating sexual ambiguity, as fashion and retail have a powerful impact on the way people envision gender based on clothing. Wear Androgyny, Original Tomboy, WildFang and Bobby Bonaparte’s designs are some of the brands responsible for this shift.
