American brands have a common belief that they need to manufacture locally if they are looking for quality; and manufacture overseas if they are looking for cost effective labor. The reason why American brands are forced to produce overseas is not just expensive labor. It has become exceedingly difficult to find skilled labor in the US who are trained to sew or cut fabrics. Another major problem for the brands is finding machinery locally. While the machinery in countries like China are producing great finished products their US counterparts are old and outdated. Even in a climate like that Hanky Panky and Shinola are brands that are manufacturing locally.
